October 11, 2012

October 11, 2012

It all started one day in the middle of October 2012 when for some very crazy reason we decided that we needed to purchase a little house that sat quietly through the block from our house. It was a very unassuming little house, three bedrooms, one bath and a very odd cramped layout. It had been a rental home for many many years and had seen quite a bit of wear and tear down through the ages.
In the beginning this little house on center street was used as a furniture store. There were two doors that led to the front areas. These two areas were separated by an opening and had a small office in the north east corner. There was a staircase that led upstairs which had three rooms.
At one point the family added on a back side to the house that had a kitchen, bathroom and laundry room. It was built on in a lean-to fashion that became the design feature of the house, there were several lean-to's around the outer edges. This space had another center chimney for the cook stove and all of the plumbing was run through this area.
When you look directly at the back end of the house you can see that somebody didn't measure the slope of the kitchen roof. Oops! The nice big windows in the upstairs were cut almost in half and had to be filled in on the inside. Kind of odd, one had been given up on and sealed shut, the other just had the bottom half sheet rocked over the window. But what the heck, it had always had renters in it that would make the payments so why not. We jumped in head first.
